WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
a pantry, a boutique, and a plan that changedthe foundation storyHi, I'm Bec! And long before I was building digital presences and marketing campaigns, I was the kid rearranging her bedroom at all hours of the night and reorganising other people's pantries for fun: yep, including mine, my mum's, and basically all my friends'. The plan was medical science, then medicine, then a life as a heart surgeon. The surgeon part never quite happened.
Instead, after many wasted years studying science and moving from state to state, I landed a casual job at a designer boutique (shout out to the ladies at Frolic Boutique in Wollongong!). Somewhere between folding clothes and chatting to customers, I fell for marketing, though I didn't know it was called that yet.
It took some travel and a lot of unsolicited advice to my Airbnb hosts (sorry to anyone who just wanted easy guests and instead got a free marketing audit) before I realised this was an actual career: the strategy, the presentation, the way good marketing makes people feel something. So I committed properly: a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Marketing, and the rest followed from there.
Haus of Refinement started because I kept seeing the same thing. Brilliant businesses with beautiful offline presences, let down by digital marketing that felt rushed, reactive, or completely disconnected from their reality. So I built something different: a studio where strategy comes first and the standard never wavers.
the architect
I didn't start a business at sixteen or build spreadsheets for fun as a kid. What I did have, always, was an inability to leave something half-finished and an obsessive need for things to look and feel right. Apparently that's a career.
When I'm not working, you'll find me by the ocean (I'm convinced it fixes everything), wandering somewhere with good light and a camera in hand, or slowly making my way through a glass of riesling. I like things that take time; most good things do.
None of this happens without my two dogs, Charlie and Bailey, who have zero concept of deadlines and remind me daily that the best things in life involve a beach and very little urgency. And none of it happens without my partner Luke, who's patiently backed every version of me through figuring out what I actually wanted, then had the audacity to go get it. Between the two of them and a good glass of wine, I somehow found the strength to bet on myself, which turns out to be most of what working for yourself actually requires.
the blueprintEvery Haus starts with a blueprint. Nothing gets built on a whim, and neither does good strategy. This is the thinking before the doing, the bit most people skip and I refuse to.
Then come the foundations: the unglamorous, structural work nobody sees but everything else depends on. Get it wrong and the whole thing falls over eventually. Get it right and you barely think about it again.
Next is the scaffolding, and let's be honest, it's ugly. This is the messy middle, where things look unfinished before they come together. I've learned to trust this stage rather than panic at it.
Last comes the part where the brand actually starts to feel like somewhere you'd want to live: personality, polish, all that groundwork finally getting to show off.
the buildI work the way a haus gets built: every wall load-bearing, nothing left to chance. Digital presences that are considered at the core and consistent across every channel, built to match the standard of everything you've already created.
Refinement over noise, intention over urgency, work that doesn't chase trends but lasts.
so …
This is my standard
